Greetings Lavender, I found the contents of your blog post interesting, I don’t know much about vaccines as I live quite separate from humans and many of their ways of life. But, from what you’ve explained in your post it seems these vaccines are extremely important for the health of your communities. To think that the requirement of these vaccines is being reduced is absurd. From an outsider’s perspective, it seems especially confusing that scientific expertise can be ignored when the decisions being made can have such a large impact on the health of an entire country.Especially given that it’s for young children who are likely most at risk for being severely affected by diseases. It seems like an uneducated and irresponsible decision to be made and to think these people are so unqualified to be making these decisions yet they are in charge of an entire country. I couldn’t imagine having to live that way, as in the ocean we have no certain species which decides things for everyone else. Although this can be chaotic as everyone lives based on their own rules, we all face the consequences of our own actions rather than suffering for someone else’s decisions. There are days where I wish I could experience life as a human just once, but hearing of these events that cause so much distress for the population makes me think life as a turtle isn’t so bad. At least I don’t have to worry about whether the people in charge of my community are going to change policies that could affect my health! I am curious though, whether these “anti-vaxxers” you mentioned truly understand the harm that unvaccinated children would cause for the population’s health. Wouldn’t these people want their children to remain safe from these diseases? I understand that people may have different beliefs or concerns about vaccines, but it seems strange to reject something that can provide protection against serious illnesses. As you said there’s a chance that diseases eradicated from the United States could be reintroduced and wreak havoc on the country. That seems especially concerning because diseases do not only affect the individual who becomes infected. They can spread to other people, including those who may not be able to receive certain vaccines or who are more vulnerable to severe illness. It’s such a funny concept to me that you humans have access to all these wonderful cures for illness yet there still happens to be people who refuse to use them. Many animals in the ocean contract diseases and there’s always a very little chance that you will be rescued and rehabilitated by humans so you must live your life with no certainty of any cure. Because of this, It frustrates me to know that some people so privileged to have access to these vaccines think they aren’t worth it. I’ve heard a bit here and there of these “doctors” who specialize in taking care of people, and to know that even they don’t approve of these decisions being made is very concerning. You would think that when a professional says that there is no science behind the decisions being made by the government that these government officials would be prohibited from their positions.
